Good news; overcoming my fear

I was unsure yesterday, but I sure today: I am scared of living in a tent and hiking through Central America.

Some good things have happened in the last couple of days. Instead of carrying this bulky and heavy laptop, I am trading it for the last five days I have spent in the hostel. I did more research about traveling, and discovered some things that could have caused me problems later. When I exit Mexico, for example, I must pay MXN$306 as some sort of fee. If I had not been prepared for that, then I might have had trouble at the tiny border-town I expect to cross.

A friend of mine reached out to her friends and asked them to help me. One of them sent me 100 euros, which is a significant amount of money for me. I plan to use it to buy 28 days of modafinil, and I think that will help ensure my success.

I did work on my website, but it is unclear what my motivations were. Now that I am with a good webhost and the advertisement problems are fixed, one motivation is that my website could generate an income: it has already increased some. A second possible motivation is that I was avoiding dealing with my fear of moving into a tent. A final possible motivation is that some issues still occupy my mind–and emotions–and I know that when I adequately write about the issues, I am able to think about them less often.

When I move into the tent, I will not be able to work on the website. I have asked a few people to at least make sure the website does not break, and they have agreed. If a few people spend a little time improving the website, then it could cross the tipping point, and make a small income for me.

Even more important: I am concerned that when I am hiking, I will feel that all of the work I put into creating the thousands of pages of the website will be wasted because the site will crumble. If some people are spending a little time each week improving it, however, then I will not worry about that problem while I am living in the tent. That would be good for my stress level.

If you want to help, you can write on the wiki, email me ([email protected]) and offer more specific help (such as more sophisticated management of the advertisements), help me with supplies, food, and medicine, and get your friends involved by sharing pages and sending emails.
