The federal government seized Washington Mutual bank and sold it to JPMorgan Chase & Co. With $188 billion in deposits, it is the largest bank failure ever.

Banks need money to operate; if they cannot get it from services (e.g., ATM fees) or products (loans to customers), then they borrow it. They borrowed a record $188 billion per day last week.

US forces on the Afghan border traded fire with allied Pakistani forces for five minutes today.

Fernando C de Baca, GOP chair of Bernalillo County, said, “Hispanics came here as conquerors. African-Americans came here as slaves. Hispanics consider themselves above blacks.” He resigned today.
