Peace is not risky. Duh.

President Bush is holding peace talks between Israel and Palestine. He eloquently stated, “I don’t think it’s a risk to try for peace. I think it’s an obligation.” 27 November 2007.

This is stark contrast to his statements less than two years ago. “[N]ot until you [Hamas] renounce your desire to destroy Israel will we deal with you.” 25 January 2006.

Bush also did not “try for peace” when Arafat was alive. “Peace requires a new and different Palestinian leadership so that a Palestinian state can be born.” 25 June 2002.

It is incredibly sad that it has taken six and one-half years for this President to understand that peace is not risky.
