A woman in Massachusetts has been held in jail for 10 years without a trial. “The right to a speedy trial had to take a back seat to the more important right of having a fair trial.” Really? And what if she is acquitted? What if she is convicted and sentenced to less than 10 years? A speedy trial is part of a fair trial, not a separate right.
