Deathwatch 2017: old, unfinished, unpublished post

Unfinished post

I started to write this post on 5 December 2014, a couple of weeks before I spontaneously tried to kill myself. I originally titled it “I have a lot of problems, but loneliness is the worst problem”. It was too painful for me to do more than collect the one quote and three videos below: I only wrote one short comment on any of them. In the last two years, I’ve wanted to finish writing it, but I never had the emotional strength to even view what I had drafted. Today, I opened it, but didn’t read it, and published it, because this website will die in a few days, which I plan to explain in a different post.

Humans are social animals

Man is by nature a political [i.e., social: English, “political” from Greek polis, ptolis, “city; community, citizens”] animal. And he who by nature and not by mere accident is without a state, is either a bad man or above humanity.
. . .
But he who is unable to live in society, or who has no need because he is sufficient for himself, must be either a beast or a god.

Aristotle, Politics, Book One, Part II (350 BCE).

I am not a god; I still need—and want—to be with other people, so I am not a beast.
