Tails I lose; heads you win—I’m no longer a lawyer

To stay a lawyer, I must pay a registration fee every year. I have no money, so I didn’t pay my registration fee for 2013. The goal of the ARDC lawyers pursuing my case is to take away my license. Even though my ethical case is still pending, they have already won: as of today, I cannot practice law in Illinois because I couldn’t afford to pay the registration fee.
